Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

 

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind is running 21-26 April and is designed to make you think about your mental and physical wellbeing.  We've got loads of stuff on offer to give you food for thought.  Here's a run down of what you can get involved in:

Monday 21st

  • FREE Reiki sessions: Reiki is great for relaxation, and helps with energy levels too. You lie (fully clothed) on a table and the practitioner places their hands non-intrusively around the body whilst they give the healing treatment. If you would like to book an appointment please contact support.union@ncl.ac.uk with your name and preferred time.  Sessions start at 10:30am and the last session is at 6pm. 

Tuesday 22nd

  • Nightline will be in Rijos giving out information on their service.  Nightline is an advice and information service run by students for students. 
  • The Catholic and Buddhist Chaplaincies will be having a drop-in at Castle Leazes 10am-12pm.
  • The Samaritans will be giving out information on their advice and listening service in Mens Bar 11am-4pm
  • Lifestyle Coaching sessions will be available with an advisor from the University Wellbeing Service.  Sessions will be 30 minutes long, one on one and totally confidential.  The first session starts at 1:30pm and the last is at 3:30pm.  If you would like more information or to book an appointment please contact rob.bedford@ncl.ac.uk or support.union@ncl.ac.uk with your name and preferred time.
  • Relaxation sessions are being held in Meeting Room 20 on the 2nd floor of the Union building, 4-5pm.  If you would like to book a place for the session please contact rob.bedford@ncl.ac.uk


Wednesday 23rd

  • Give it a Go Dance, including Tango, Irish Dancing and Swing Dance.  2pm in the Basement
  • Give it a Go Yoga, 3pm in the Basement
  • Give it a Go Meditation, 4pm in the Basement
  • Give it a Go Jitsu, 6pm-8:30pm at the University Sports Centre


Thursday 24th

  • Pee in a Pot Chlamydia testing, 10am-5pm, Mens Bar.  Testing is free and confidential.  Results can be given to you by text, call or post and will be back to you within 10 days.


Friday 25th

  • Access to Learning Fund Drop-in: Information for UK students on help if you're in financial difficulty.  10-11am, Training Room
  • Financial Assistance Fund Drop-in: Information for non-UK students on help if you're in financial difficulty.  11am-12pm, Training Room
  • Financial information stand in Mens Bar 11am-4pm, giving information on support from the University if you are struggling financially
  • Blind Taste Testing in Mens Bar 11am-4pm - see if you can tell the difference between Smart Price and Premium brands
  • Bursaries Drop-in: Information for UK students on whether you are eligible to apply for a bursary and information on how to do so.  12-12:30pm, Training Room
  • General Finance Drop-in: Answering any queries you might have about finance.  1pm-2pm
  • Money Management and Budgeting Session: Tips and information on how to manage your money effectively. 2-3:30pm, Training Room.  To book a place on this session please contact Emma on emma.hope@ncl.ac.uk


Saturday 26th

  • We'll be having a trip to the beach! Get out of the house and join us for some fresh air and fun and games (or just some chips and ice cream) for the Campaign finale.  More details to follow!

 

Throughout the week there will be specials on at the catering outlets within the building. 

Rijos - As well as being able to get fresh fruit and real fruit smoothies and juice here, Urban Fresh Fruit selection will also be available for 75p.  This is semi-dried fruit and 100% healthy!

S.O.S - Stressed Out Students

If you're feeling stressed out by the exams and assignment deadlines then look out for the Welfare and Campaigns' Committee current Stressed Out Students campaign, running from 14-23 January. 

Look out for: Members of the WAC team giving out FREE goody bags in the library 

FREE Beat the Stress sessions run by the University's Life Matters team, which give you relaxation tips and helps you to identify the causes of stress.  These sessions will run on Wed 16th Jan 330pm-430pm and Wed 23rd Jan 11am-12pm in the Function Suite (1st floor of the Union) 

FREE Reiki sessions on Thursday 17th Jan and Tuesday 22nd Jan from 11am-6pm.  Sessions will be 30 minutes each.  Reiki is based on natural energy and is deeply relaxing.  Booking is essential so if you're interested, drop Rosie, your Student Support Officer, an email on support.union@ncl.ac.uk for more info or to book an appointment

Meningitis Awareness

7-9th January presents Meningitis Awareness - raising awareness and informing people about the symptoms of Meningitis. 

There will be information points situated in the library and opposite Rijos in the Union, which will also have staff to answer any questions you may have on the virus.   Leaflets will be put in all bedrooms in halls and a DVD featuring one of Newcastle's students will be played around halls and in the Union.  It can also be seen here: Meningitis Film for more information on the facts about Meningitis, visit Meningitis Trust

 Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance week starts 26th November and ends with the finale at Solution on the 30th.

This is a week about promoting fun but safe sex, and taking responsibility for your sexual health.
