Term Time Opening Hours for Academic Year 2008/09 are:

Monday 10am - 4pm
Tuesday 10am - 4pm
Wednesday 10am - 4pm
Thursday 10am - 6.30pm
Friday 10am - 4pm

We will be running a "Job Club" from 4pm - 6.30pm every Thursday evening during term-time in the Job Shop for any Newcastle University student wishing to look at the most current local newspapers containing job advertisements, and also details of local vacancies from the Job Centre.  Just drop in - no appointment necessary!

We are the student employment service based at Newcastle University's Students' Union. We offer a range of services to current undergraduates and postgraduates including advertising hundreds of part-time, temporary and vacation positions in the Newcastle area.  The Student Job Shop has been developed in response to the increasing number of students having to seek employment whilst at university. The Job Shop is a Student Employment Service, acting as an information exchange (rather than an employment agency) between students seeking temporary and part-time work, and employers seeking temporary or part-time workers.

We are based on the first floor of the Union Society building and are open in both term time and vacation periods.

Employer CV Preparation / Interview Session on Wednesday 12th November.

This is a great opportunity for International Students (although any student is welcome to attend) to gain some expert advice and feedback from a local employer.

DenalliDenalli, a Recruitment Company specialising in recruitment for the Contact and Call Centre industry in the North East, are coming to the Students' Union on the above date in order to help students with their interview skills. The session will start at 2.30pm and will begin with a half hour presentation on tips for CV preparation, interviews and general Call Centre opportunities. Following the presentation, each student will have a 10-15 minute "mock interview" session with the employer (this will be a general interview with some standard questions that would be commonly asked in interview scenarios).

All students will be expected to attend the half hour presentation starting at 2.30pm, and will have already been allocated an individual interview time for afterwards, so it will be your own responsibility to turn up at the correct time for your mock interview. Feedback will be provided by the employer in the form of a completed "report" afterwards for each student being interviewed.

This session is intended to provide students of Newcastle University with valuable interview experience without the pressure of a real job interview, as well as feedback and tips for improvement - it also enables the employer to "pre-interview" you to enable them to assess your suitability against any future vacancies they will be looking to recruit to.

This session is expected to be very popular with students, therefore if you would like to book a place on either (or both) the Group Presentation on CV Preparation / Interviews from 2.30-3pm on 12th Nov or to be allocated an interview slot, running between 3-5pm on the same day, then please email the Job Shop as soon as possible with the following information - your name, your course, your contact tel number AND email address, whether you would like to book onto the Group Presentation, or whether you would like to book onto an individual "mock interview" time, or BOTH. Send these details to job.shop.union@ncl.ac.uk and wait for the Job Shop to reply to you to confirm that you have a place. All sessions will be taking place in the Training Room (a few doors down from the Job Shop). Get emailing!!

Are you an International Student looking for paid work in the UK,
but finding it difficult due to a lack of real work experience on your CV?
