Posters and Flyers
Newcastle is saturated with posters and flyers. Here are some handy hints to make yours worthwhile and not fall foul of the rules.
Posters
1. Do not fly poster, it is illegal
2. You can put posters on the student noticeboards in the Union Building (boards opposite Reception, by Rijos and next to the rear entrance). These must be signed by the President or the Editor of the Courier or they will be removed.
3. If you poster in any other place without prior permission, poster over another poster or advertise another bar/club venue in the building, your posters will be removed.
4. It is always good to ask around the University if you can put your posters up in the area you want to.
5. The University takes a very dim view of students postering around halls of residence, especially for nightclubs and bars.
6. If you are postering in takeaways and other night venues, remember that you cannot simply remove someone else's poster to place yours.
7. If you want to poster in the Union building, have you considered using a plasma screen slide instead? For students or student societies, they are free!
Flyers
1. You cannot distribute flyers on campus unless you have the express permission of a member of University security staff or halls management.
2. With permission you can flyer in and around the Union Building, not going further than the edge of the lawn adjacent to the building.
3. You are responsible for the litter problem caused by your flyers. If flyers are dumped, the City Council have been known to pursue the venue for costs.
4. To distribute flyers in the city you require a licence from the City Council. If you do not have a licence you can be fined a substantial amount of money. For more information look here.
